Spring awakening and summer vacation

in Castelrotto

Spring takes a little longer to really awaken here, but then it is in full splendor of colors. On the Schlern or the Plattkofel and Sasso Lungo the snow fields still reach far down, the Seiser Alm is covered with crocuses and still shows its rough side, and in Kastelruth the daffodils and tulips are already blooming and the lilac exudes a beguiling scent.

Then it's time to go outside, sit on the terrace or in the garden with a delicious cappuccino and a wonderfully fragrant apple strudel and let the increasingly strong sun shine on your face. Then it will soon be that time again and two important events are coming up in Kastelruth: the Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride and the Kastelruther Spatzen Open Air.

Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride

Every year between May and June, the Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride takes place in Kastelruth, Siusi allo Sciliar and Fiè allo Sciliar. Around 20,000 spectators attend each year when riders from all over the country compete in the ring jousting at Kofl, the ride through the labyrinth on the Matzbödele, the gallop at the Völser Weiher or the gate ride on the meadows of Prösels Castle.

The ride has already been held 40 times and continues to inspire enthusiasm. Participants and spectators alike look forward to the spectacle, which culminates in the awarding of the standard to the winning team.

Refreshment in the Völser Weiher

Summer in the Sciliar region is simply perfect for a holiday. Even when the sun is burning really hot from the sky, it is pleasant on the Seiser Alm and on hikes across the alpine pastures and through the forests you can see rural crafts and agricultural work up close. If it gets too hot in Kastelruth, the outdoor swimming pool in Telfen or the Völser Weiher lake offer the necessary cooling off. A holiday in Kastelruth is always an unforgettable experience. Try it yourself!
